Hi, I'm Emily!
Emily Small is a playful illustrator, graphic artist, and rug maker. Originally from New Hampshire, she has found home in the mossy quadrants of Portland, OR where she has honed her artistic style for the past 10 years. Her hand drawn designs focus on pattern-play, punchy color blocking, and roundy shapes with lots of personality, shown through unpretentious yet bold line work!
All products are 100% hand drawn by Emily on her tablet or plain old paper + felt tip pen. Tufted rugs + wall hangings are made entirely by hand from design concept to final trimming! When she needs a little help with production, she partners with local businesses to make her vision come to life. Risograph printed products are always made by her pals at Outlet PDX!
When Emily isn't drawing, she's usually bopping around the city, playing fetch with her cat, giggling with her pals in thrift stores, weeding her flower garden, or slurping on some noodles. Subscribe to the email newsletters to learn more about her!

Like drawing with yarn, I translate my illustrations into tufted wall hangings and floor rugs! Each piece is thoughtfully designed, tufted with premium materials, and trimmed by hand in my home studio in Portland, OR. Similar to latch-hook rug making from the 1970s, rug tufting uses a powertool to punch yarn through fabric, creating a fuzzy textile. You can find available pieces in the shop or contact me for a custom rug!
